Scottish Borders

Roxburgh, Kelso, Scottish Borders, UK. 12th January 2018. Smailholm Tower and Sandyknowes Farm on the horizon viewed from the village of Roxburgh. The tower provided inspiration to Sir Walter Scott, who visited his grandfather at the farm as a boy, and is the setting in Scott's ballad The Eve of St. John. The artist William Turner also visited the peel tower with Scott and this then provided inspiration for the photographic pioneer Fox-Talbot and his publication 'Sun Pictures in Scotland'.
