36 imagesA moment of serendipity as a flock of starlings decided to roost in a neighbour's garden for a few weeks over winter providing me with the privilege of documenting a murmuration every evening. One of natures' most mesmerising sights, some claim it is to deter predators such as peregrine falcons, others argue it is a way of keeping warm and communicating between the flock. According to the RSPB - 'The starling population has fallen by more than 80 per cent in recent years, meaning they are now on the critical list of UK birds most at risk. The decline is believed to be due to the loss of permanent pasture, increased use of farm chemicals and a shortage of food and nesting sites in many parts of the UK.'
