Pub Sheep Shearing competition, Hawick, UK

Horse & Hound Inn, Bonchester Bridge, Hawick, Scottish Borders, UK. 6th August 2016. Leading sheep shearers compete in the annual pub speed shearing competition in the village of Bonchester Bridge in the Scottish Borders. Each sheep will take between 25 to 30 seconds to clip and the winner will earn in the region of £500. Contestants come from across the UK and all shear professionally. Judges are on hand and will give red or green cards to indicate a pass or fail on skill level, which is determined largely on how much fleece is removed and if the sheep is nicked. Shearers have their own dress code, and some will even shear in bare feet. Farming is integral to the economy of the Scottish Borders and locals across the generations fill the pub which turns into a live sports theatre for the evening.
